Unlock the power of mother tongue
Help your children start speaking their mother tongue straight away, deeply appreciating it, and wanting to pass it on to the next generation - even if you don't speak the language properly, or at all.
Meet Your Mentor
I help busy mums to easily help their children start speaking their mother tongue(s) straight away, deeply appreciating it, and wanting to pass it on to the next generation. Even when the mums don't speak the language(s) properly, or at all.
My first degree is in Journalism, and I have since gone on to become a Certified Homeschool Educator and Transformational Workshop Facilitator. I am the creator of "The Intergenerational Wisdom Method", a unique Bible-based approach I have developed over a decade of personal research.
I went from being ashamed of speaking "vernacular", and deeply depressed about not knowing how or when to help my children start speaking their mother tongue(s). To now comfortably speaking local languages imperfectly, teaching my children to love speaking them too, and to have a deep appreciation for their heritage.
We Are Part Of Something Bigger
There's a revolution happening in the global Afrikan world. We're living in a new stage of history where we no longer just want our children to navigate the modern world - we want them to know their cultural heritage and be proud of who they are.
"When an elder dies, a library burns to the ground." - African Proverb
The educator and founder of the Afrocentric education movement, Kwame Agyei Akoto, called this new stage, "The Cultural Rebirth." It marks the end of Africa's journey through cultural chaos and the beginning of reclaiming our history, culture, and mother tongues.
We have the most experience of both the African traditional world and the modern world. Our parents can't say they understand the modern world the way we do, and our children can't say they understand the traditional world the way we do. We are the generation best positioned to link these two worlds together.
Common Challenges
As Culturally Awakening Mums, we often face specific challenges when trying to pass on our mother tongue to our children.
Between school, homework, and daily routines, finding time to teach another language feels impossible.
Not knowing where to start, which language to prioritize, or whether your efforts will confuse your child.
Feeling inadequate because you don't speak the language perfectly, or worrying about being judged.
The deeper problem is not about time, knowledge, or support
We've been trained by western education that learning happens in a classroom separate from our everyday lives. But unless we make a shift in how we teach our children their mother tongue, it's likely they won't see the purpose of learning it.
The Way Forward
The solution is to make a SHIFT into an African-Centered way of helping our children speak their mother tongue, by weaving it through the experiences and people already present in their everyday lives.
Practical Application
Your children will see how their mother tongue applies directly to their everyday lives.
Deeper Cultural Connection
Expands their exposure to their larger culture in natural, meaningful ways.
Lasting Impact
Creates a foundation for intergenerational wisdom to be passed down.
"Studies show that when students learn by actively doing, discussing, and thinking about what they're learning, they talk 13 times more than when they're passively being lectured."
Success Stories
"Once it dawned on me that I might be the last generation in my lineage to speak and write at least 2 local languages, I knew I had to begin teaching my children. After Akiiki's guidance, my husband and I are now beginning. I'm even incorporating it in my school of 63 children here in the village!"

"Prior to my conversation with Akiiki, I felt like it was too late to do anything about mother tongue in my household. My children struggle to get in local transport, negotiate prices, and be part of local jokes. After speaking with Akiiki, I got valuable pointers about how to maximize what I was already doing."

"I have been trying to figure out how to raise children with a firm cultural foundation and appreciation of their mother tongue, as well as English, but didn't have the best strategies. After interacting with Akiiki I got clarity and better strategies, yet easy and doable. I am super excited!"

"I felt like there was no solution because I don't know the language, and the children were growing up and getting set in their ways. But after our conversation with Akiiki I came to realize that there's still hope. I feel I can do it, I can do something about it. It was such an enlightenment and encouragement."

Common Questions
Can you teach my child their specific language?
If I am not part of your child's personal everyday life, then me teaching them their language will not help them start speaking it straight away. Part of what I do is show you a lasting way to easily weave any local language(s) you want them to speak into their day, which will help them start speaking it straight away, deeply appreciating it, and wanting to pass it on to the next generation. Even if you don't speak the language(s) well, or at all.
I'm so busy and don't have much time, can I do this?
I felt the same way too, but when I made this SHIFT, I went from feeling overwhelmed and deeply depressed about having no time to work on this area of my life. Now, I'm able to find plenty of time within the already existing routines of my everyday life. I don't have to wait for the perfect time anymore, while painfully watching my children grow up and become more set in their ways. The truth is that there's never a perfect time. The demands of everyday life never end, especially for us mums.
I can't afford this.
A helpful way to think about this question could be, "How might I afford this?" Reframing it like this puts us in a creative state of mind, where we can find solutions to the problems that are in the way of us receiving the support we need to make this big opportunity available for our children. Another helpful way is to look at this is not as an expense, but as an investment into your parenting vision, into retrieving the legacy your fathers and mothers left for your children, and into leaving an inheritance for your children and your children's children.
